How we bring your favorite cacao safely to your door

At Moruga Cacao, our mission is to deliver the pure enjoyment of 100% cacao directly to your home. Every summer brings a special challenge: heat. 🔥

We completely understand if the thought of our cacao makes you melt a little...

BUT...

It would be a real shame if the cacao did the same on its way to you.

The next heatwave is always around the corner. And because the sun can move faster than our cacao can hide in the shade, we started testing a possible solution.

Our idea: insulated shipping bags

This year, we wanted to approach the melting-cacao problem in a new way. We received a batch of insulated shipping bags for testing which, unfortunately, are made from aluminum. These bags could help us get our cacao to you safely even in high temperatures. But that decision comes with responsibility. Aluminum is not exactly environmentally friendly, and we want to make sure we act as sustainably as possible from start to finish.

Above all, we want to be transparent about the topic and show the trade-offs that come with the additional packaging material created by using insulated bags.

The dilemma: heat break or more sustainable shipping?

We have a difficult choice: either a heat-related shipping pause, or the chance to make something that does not look sustainable at first glance as sustainable as possible.

Our conditions for using insulated bags

We would only use insulated bags long-term if we can make sure that after use they are either

• 1. reused or given another purpose: if you keep using the bags yourself, we can reduce waste together. Do you have a creative way to reuse them?
  
  
• 2. sent back to us: we would clean and reuse the bags to make sure they are not used only once.

Our reuse ideas

We think you could use the bags wonderfully for:

• your lunch and snacks at the outdoor pool 🥪🍌⛱
• your after-work drink 🍺
• your groceries 🛍
• heat or cold protection for your laptop or other electronic devices in the car or outdoors 💻 📱
• your cosmetics when traveling 💄

Intentionally large bags

We also deliberately chose large insulated bags so that, ideally, a few extra pouches of cacao can be ordered at the same time. That way, you are stocked for the summer. Larger orders make particular sense for more environmentally conscious and sustainable shipping. That is exactly why we already offer larger 700 g pouches and attractive volume discounts from just two pouches per order. We believe ordering a single pouch of cacao is worth questioning consciously, especially if it would need this kind of aluminum packaging. 🌱

And of course, the larger size also increases the possibilities for alternative use. 🔄
